STUDENT STORIES
Hear from students about their lessons, their progress, and what learning guitar has meant to them.
Beginner Student
I started guitar lessons with James back in March as a complete beginner, and I'm amazed at how much l've learned since then! I can now play quite a lot of songs, mainly because he explains the chords so well and makes them really easy to pick up.
I also really like that he's happy to teach songs we actually enjoy and want to play. It makes such a difference and definitely keeps you motivated to practice.
I've really enjoyed learning guitar with James and would definitely recommend him to anyone thinking about giving it a go - even if, like me, you're starting from absolutely no experience!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here are just some of the questions beginners ask me before getting started.
Do I need any experience before starting guitar lessons?
Not at all. Lessons can start from complete beginner level, even if you’ve never picked up a guitar before.
Do I need to own a guitar before my first lesson?
Ideally, yes, as having your own guitar allows you to practice between lessons. That is the only way you will improve by practicing.
I can also help you choose a suitable first guitar.
Should I learn on acoustic or electric guitar?
Either is absolutely fine. The best guitar to start with is usually the one that suits the music you actually want to play.
How long will it take before I can play songs?
You'll start working towards real songs from the beginning. How quickly you progress depends on your practice.
The lessons are designed to get you playing from the get go, rather than spending months learning chords/music theory.
How much should I practice between lessons?
You don't need hours every day. Even 10–20 minutes of focused, regular practice can make a big difference when you're starting.
What happens after I enquire?
Once you get in touch, I’ll contact you to have a quick chat about your experience, what you’d like to learn and what you want to achieve on guitar.
We’ll then find a suitable lesson time and get your first lesson arranged. Exciting times.
